I thought the discussion in class about beauty went very well. I hadn't thought about what beauty could mean until the question was asked. It isn't exactly an easy answer, but it can be answered. I think a more difficult question would be what is not beauty? Like discussed in class, a rotting animal carcass would most likely be considered something that is not beauty. But if someone were to look at the corpse and think about what will become of it that idea would be considered beauty. The animal was once living and will eventually decompose and its remains will become apart of a cycle that makes our earth exist. In its place something more appealing to the eye may then grow. That is beauty. Beauty can be an idea or thought of what may become of something.
I also believe beauty is internal. Each person sees things differently. More than one person may consider the same thing to be beautiful, but each has their own reason why. When one person looks at a sunset they may be reminded of a moment spent with someone special. While someone else may think about how there is so much more in this world to explore.
Beauty is everywhere and in everything. But it takes a mind to see it or understand it as beauty.

The fact is...
What makes a fact a fact?
I think there may be two ways of answering this question. The first would be...that a fact becomes a fact when it is anonymously agreed upon by the general public based on scientific "discovery". Whether or not scientific discovery is valid. The second waqy I would answer this question would be... A fact becomes a fact as soon as the person who is stating a "fact" says "and thats a fact" or "as a matter of fact". I don't really feel that there are true facts. In fact, the word itself just doesn't sound right. So based on that statement I am the speaker and I am stating what I feel is true, in turn creating a fact.

Thursday
To touch on Logic again. Logic: the study of arguments. Arguments have two parts, the premise, or reason and the conclusion. Fallacies- flawed arguments. Example in class. " You should shave your legs because leg hair is gross." (Because) is considered the premise indicator. I found an article printed in the Reading Eagle, Sept. 14th, 2007. The headline was.."State should licence all bounty hunters" Apparently two bounty hunters were arrested on burglary and other related charges. Senator Mike O'pake was quoted saying" I'm sure people would be shocked to hear there is no licensing of bounty hunters, who go around forcing themselves into private homes and illegally handcuffing them and hauling them away." I thought that was a little funny.

Tuesday's Categories
Our Class broke our philosophical questions into categories and named them. Some of the categories are as follows; Questions about humans actions, Questions about Dreams, Questions about Existence, Personal questions, Societal questions, "Realistic" questions. ( which were referred to as borderline scientific questions), Faith questions, and Spiritual, ( as in questions about religion) and Spiritual ( as in nature and super nature or the supernatural). We were then given the traditional way of categorizing philosophical questions which included a whole lot of big words. Although some of the categories had different names we concluded that most of our categories fit into those categories in some way. Some of the categories were of their own such as "Logic". This is supposedly the tie between philosophy and science. This category questions arguments and whether they are valid or invalid. This could be an interesting category because there are so many arguments that in my opinion seem flawed or just plain stupid.

setting up a blog
setting up a blog is fairly simple.
I feel this blog will act as a nice way to express our thoughts of philosophy class.
